Abstract

On Saturday 13th October the Universities of Cardiff and Oxford came together to host a day of linguistic fun for Year 11 pupils from Wales as part of the Creative Multilingualism Project. The day was a mix of talks about why students might want to study languages after GCSE and the different career options languages can equip them for, and workshops where they could put their language skills into action. The workshops encouraged students to extend their knowledge of languages they already know beyond the school curriculum, and gave them the option to try out a new language or use their languages creatively. Creative Multilingualism is a 4-year research programme aiming to release the creative potential of languages, shine a spotlight on the UK's hidden multilingualism and celebrate the many benefits of language learning.
