Abstract

This essay reflects on the current social crisis by arguing that panic has become an object of mass consumption. By forcing us to consume panic, capitalist ideology facilitates the acceleration of the economy’s main drivers while strengthening its authoritarian grip over the terrified masses. Our “health emergency” is therefore discussed as a historical event that has little to do with the nature of the virus, and everything to do with the nature of capitalism.
