Abstract

The cover picture shows a graphic illustration of a DNA being “mined” for encoding genes that combined comprise the minimal information to architect a molecule or group of molecules produced as secondary metabolite in a wild type strain or in a heterologous host when the whole pathway machinery is transported. The genes represented by arrows and codifying VLM1 and VLM2 giant proteins' interconnect four modules with high versatility to produce cyclodepsipeptides. Combining molecular networking analysis as dereplication tool (on top) unraveled new cyclodepsipeptide derivatives produced by valinomycin biosynthetic pathway.
