Abstract

The article discusses the problematic title and initial line of the so-called 'Jesus the Messiah Sutra' (Xuting-mishi-suo-jing) in the wider context of the text and its possible Christian setting through a strictly philological treatment of these passages. It suggests a new reading of the title and the first line.
