Abstract

The Centre for Clean Chemistry in Swansea specialises in the development of clean and regioselective chemical processes, often in the field of aromatic substitution. This work has recently been recognised through the RSC Green Chemistry Award. para-Regioselective electrophilic substitution reactions of aromatic compounds, for example nitration, halogenation, acylation and alkylation, have been achieved by carrying out reactions over reusable zeolite catalysts, while use of directed lithiation reactions allows regioselective ortho-substitution.
