Abstract

Additive Manufacturing is increasingly gaining mainstream adoption in a range of manufacturing industries. Many authors have suggested that the uptake of these technologies will lessen the role of warehousing within the order fulfilment process, typically because of the on-demand and localized production that is possible with Additive Manufacturing. This chapter argues that the future is more nuanced, and that intelligent choices in the design of supply chains may lead to warehouses and Additive Manufacturing machines playing a prominent role in the future of competitive manufacturing.
