Abstract

Philip Selznick (1919–2010) was professor of sociology and law at the University of California, Berkeley. He was a major figure in general sociology, social and political theory, sociology of organization, and law in the second half of the twentieth century. Selznick is considered a founder of the institutional approach in organization theory. He also contributed to specific disciplines of social, legal, and moral philosophy, industrial sociology, public administration, and management theory.
