Abstract

This paper is rooted in an ideology critique of inherited ways of doing theology, which leads to a redefinition of theology as being to do 'with understanding the implications of knowing God'. This enables a move from rationalist to practical hermeneutics in which theory is regarded as an aspect of practice, and in which narrative has a key role to play. This prepares the ground for consideration of the dimensions of theologically reflective practice: engaging with the context; seeing/knowing; reflective action. The performance of such a practice is also considered, including the nature of the dialogue with the Christian tradition and the openness to encounter with God which is integral to the model.
