Abstract

SCUBA-2 is a 10,000 pixel camera designed to work at submillimetre wavelengths on the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope. The instrument is currently undergoing final instrument verification in Edinburgh prior to delivery to the telescope in April 2007. In this poster we present a summary of the main science themes, including the approved Legacy Survey programme, as well as some of the results from the commissioning period in the laboratory. SCUBA-2 is the first wide-field camera for the submillimtre region and incorporates state-of-the-art superconducting detectors together with in-focal plane multiplexing. The instrument will carry out surveys of the sky hundreds of time faster than any current instrument, providing complementary capabilities to the new generation of interferometers (such as the SMA and ALMA).
