Abstract

Two major obstacles to using motion analysis as an aid to clinical decision making are the subjectivity of data interpretation and the difficulty in comprehending large amounts of both corroborating and conflicting information. In response to these findings a diagnostic tool was developed that is capable of producing an automated and objective diagnosis from large amounts of motion analysis data. This paper gives an overview of the potential of this objective diagnostic tool for classifying osteoarthritic knee function and quantifying recovery following total knee replacement surgery based on motion analysis techniques.
