Abstract

Battery systems act as the electricity storage medium to supply battery energy storage systems or propel electric vehicles. The mode and frequency of interactions increase gradually between battery systems and power networks, which poses the problem of characterizing their electrical properties correctly during the corresponding processes. A study is carried out mainly on the charging characteristics of battery systems with an analysis model proposed. Curve fitting is firstly conducted on discrete time series of the charging power deduced from field experiments or numerical simulations. The fitted functions are then linearized preserving major features of the original curve whereas simplifying the following analysis steps. A temporal distribution model is put forward regarding the stochastic nature of the charging processes. Simulations are performed on a battery system designed for a type of marketed electric vehicles, which verifies the feasibility and effectiveness of the analysis method presented.
