Abstract

There has been a recent in terest in high m agnetostriction m aterials for m agnetostriction based stre ss/to rq u e sensor and actuator applications. Several m aterials have been investigated w ith this aim, including Tefenol (Tbo.3Dyo.7Fe2), SmFe2, and Galfanol (FesoGa2o). However, these m aterials have several drawbacks for stress sesnor and actuator applications. Among these are low sensitivity to magnetic field or stress, low chemical stability, high costs and lack of mechanical strength.
