Cells in exposed positions are subject to injury and therefore need membrane repair mechanisms. Ca2+ entry inevitably follows membrane rupture and recent studies indicate that this elicits repair via Ca2+-activated exocytosis of lysosomes, regulated by lysosomal synaptotagmin VII.
