Abstract

The processes that determine the mass spectrum and spatial configuration of stars formed in association are discussed, the processes are evaluated in terms of the energy imbalance which drives them and the competitivity of their time scale. A trend in the contraction/fragmentation sequence is outlined. This trend derives from the interaction between magnetic and centrifugal forces. The condensation time scale problem is considered
