Abstract

We have gained insight in how individual building using energy and detailed models have been developed to predict energy consumption to inform design decision making. Efficient urban energy systems which define how cities use energy are becoming the focus in order to provide solutions to the Climate Change and Fuel Poverty. Efforts have been made to develop simulation tools to predict energy consumption in urban scale. First, this paper reviews current context of urban scale simulation. Then, it presents Energy and Environmental Prediction‘s’ version (EEPs), an energy simulation tool associated with early stage urban development established in Cardiff University. It illustrates how this tool can assist in early stage design decision making via a relatively speedy method of setting up and analysis large data sets associated with simulating many buildings simultaneously.
