Abstract

The reaction of 2-chloro-3-thiocyanatopyridine with a substituted spiroepoxycyclohexadienone, which served as a masked phenol with reversed polarity, led to the first reported synthesis of an analog of the 4-azaphenoxathiin ring system. Confirmation of the structure was obtained from the assignment of the 13C-nmr spectrum.
