Abstract

This report presents a review of published material related to public sector food procurement with particular attention to the procurement of food from small and local producers. The focus of the review is to identify different supply chain models and, in contribution to the South West PSFPP Action Plan (SWFD, 2008), to consider how they contribute to more sustainable local food procurement. The Action Plan is in line with the government’s Public Sector Food Procurement Initiative (PSFPI) and its five main objectives1 (PSFPI, 2003), and work that is reviewed in this paper refers to these objectives.
