Abstract

An experiment was carried out to examine the effects of sugar and aspartame in coffee on aspects of memory. The results showed that subjects given a sweetener performed a logical reasoning task more accurately but more slowly than subjects with no sweetener. Performance of free recall, delayed recognition memory, and semantic memory tasks was unaffected by the sweetener.
