Abstract

As the technologies of Additive Manufacturing increase in their commercial prominence, so too does the need to understand the implications for the supply chain which arise from their application. This paper focuses on the nature of flexibility in supply chains, and shows how Additive Manufacturing can affect the different types of flexibilities that can be achieved. Through a process of systematic combining we develop a framework with which to evaluate the contribution these technologies may make to supply chain flexibility, and through two case studies demonstrate the applicability of this proposal to different manufacturing scenarios.
