Abstract

We use a scattering-matrix based numerical method to model the optical properties and quasi-guided eigenmodes in polaritonic crystal slab, i.e. a finite-thickness photonic crystal with polariton pole in dielectric susceptibility of some constituent materials. Particularly, we focus our attention on the dips in the transmission spectra, appearing due to excitation of quasi-guided (or leaky) modes of polaritonic crystal slab. We show that the polaritonic effect in the strong coupling regime of exciton–photon interaction significantly changes the energy and linewidth of these modes. Thus, it can be used to control such important parameters of photonic crystal slabs as stop-band widths and their overlap in different polarizations.
