Abstract

This study aimed to determine viewing preferences of men with schizophrenia and a history of violent crime and to compare them with two control groups. A retrospective study was carried out using a semi-structured interview to collect information. Results demonstrated that men with schizophrenia and a history of violence did not report watching more violence on screen compared to controls. However, they reported greater preference for watching violent screen images, more pleasure when watching screen violence, and greater identification with violent characters on screen. Avenues for further research and implications for treatment of violent forensic patients are discussed.
